The winners in Startup Grant 2025, a program designed to help the emerging entrepreneurs in the Maldives, have been announced by Bank of Maldives. MVR 500,000 will be allocated in each of the chosen projects to assist in launching or even expanding their business ideas.
The recipients of this year are three different ventures that concentrate in family services, environmental sustainability and early childhood education. Rashi Park is a proposed indoor children play park and family cafe that will be set up within the city of Addu, Feydhoo at Rashi Park under the leadership of Ibrahim Miflal Fayaz. The project will also provide a professionally built children play area and a cafe zone to parents to build a family friendly atmosphere.
In the second competition, which was won by Rashu Plastic Project by Mohamed Mimrah, plastic waste is recycled to make usable products. The project will gather the plastic waste and reuse them into products like clocks, keychains, and sunglasses. The project recycling plant will be established within V. Felidhoo.
The third beneficiary is Ladybird Kindergarten which is created by Shamma Nadheem. The project will entail the setting up of an Islamic Early Learning Station within the Hulhumalé Phase 2 which will provide a structured early learning project to children aged three to six years integrating learning in faith with play and national curriculum provisions.
The choice of the winners was done in two phases of evaluation first by screening of the applications and second by presentation of the business plans. Although the grant usually grants two businesses in a year, the third beneficiary was selected in the acknowledgment of the 10 th anniversary of BML Islamic. It is the fourth consecutive year Bank of Maldives has been giving Startup Grant.
