Tourist arrivals in the Maldives have reached 1 million 202 thousand 262 as of 16 July 2025. This is a 9 point 6 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
The growth has picked up even more in July. From 1 to 16 July alone, 94 thousand 132 tourists visited the country, which is a 15 point 3 percent rise from the same period in 2024. The daily average of arrivals is now around 5 thousand 883, up from about 4 thousand per day in May and June.
China is currently the largest source of visitors, with 165 thousand 134 arrivals so far. Russia follows with 140 thousand 298 and the United Kingdom with 115 thousand 133.
Most tourists continue to stay in resorts, which hosted 72 point 8 percent of all visitors. Guesthouses welcomed 22 point 2 percent, and hotels 2 point 7 percent.
The Ministry is targeting 2 point 3 million arrivals by the end of the year. A further rise in visitors is expected after the opening of the new terminal at Velana International Airport on 26 July.
