Bank of Maldives (BML) has introduced discounts of up to 10% for purchases made using its Student Debit Card at selected shops, restaurants, and bookshops.
The card is designed to help young people build smart money habits and learn to manage a fixed allowance. It’s available in two age groups—7 to 12 years and 13 to 18 years—with different card designs for each.
Students using the card will also receive a 0.5% annual rebate based on their total yearly spending, credited to their savings account.
Parents can easily manage the card through the BML app, where they can transfer funds, monitor transactions, freeze or unfreeze the card, and change the PIN.
Issued as a Visa debit card, the Student Card comes with no fees and can be used for transactions both in the Maldives and overseas.
BML says the initiative aims to promote financial literacy from a young age while offering real-world tools for children to practice responsible budgeting and spending.
