MWSC Delivers Water and Sewerage Systems to Two More Islands in the Maldives

The Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has completed and officially commissioned new water and sewerage systems on the islands of Fiyoaree and Vaadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, marking a significant step in the Maldives' infrastructure development.

According to MWSC, the project will ensure reliable access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation, improving public health and everyday life for residents. The project is part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s broader commitment to fast-track long-pending water and sewerage developments under full state supervision.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Construction, Housing and InfrastructureFenaka Corporation, and MWSC visited both islands to commission the systems and inspect the final work.
The water system features a new supply network, including operational plant facilities, household service connections, boreholes, reject lines, water storage tanks, and treatment systems. The sewerage component includes main pipelines, pumping lines, sea outfalls, and pumping stations, all connected directly to individual households.

To support long-term maintenance, MWSC has also introduced water quality testing tools and a dedicated service vehicle for sewerage infrastructure on both islands.
The government-funded initiative, executed by MWSC, cost USD 3.89 million on Fiyoaree and USD 3.96 million on Vaadhoo. These upgrades underscore a sustained investment in the Maldives’ public utility sector, especially in underserved southern atolls.
