The FIBA U16 Asia Cup SABA Qualifiers and FIBA U16 Women’s Asia Cup SABA Qualifiers, powered by Dhiraagu, officially begin today, 12 June 2025, at the Social Centre Indoor Court in Malé.
Running until 16 June, the tournament brings together national teams from Maldives, India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh as they compete for a place in the FIBA U16 Asia Cup. This is a milestone event for the Maldives, marking the country's first time hosting a FIBA U16-level international basketball tournament.
The Maldives Women’s National Basketball Team will take on Bangladesh at 5:30 PM, followed by the Men’s National Team facing Sri Lanka at 8:00 PM. Both matches are expected to draw strong local support as the teams play on home ground.
Organised by the Maldives Basketball Association, the event reflects growing momentum in youth sports. Dhiraagu, a long-time supporter of basketball in the Maldives, continues to play a key role in developing the sport nationwide.
