Community and Nature Unite in Dhiraagu’s World Environment Day Celebration

Dhiraagu, in partnership with Clean Maldives, recently held its “Go Green 2025” event in HA. Dhidhdhoo from 2 to 4 June 2025, aligning with World Environment Day celebrations. The initiative reflects Dhiraagu’s ongoing dedication to environmental sustainability and community engagement.
Over the course of three days, the event brought together the Dhidhdhoo Council, local NGOs including Dhidhdhoo Kurimagu Jamiyya, school children, and community members. Together, they took part in a range of eco-friendly activities focused on planting more than 2,000 native and resilient trees. These included fruit-bearing varieties such as mango, guava, and rose apple, as well as shade-providing trees spread across the island. Dhiraagu contributed 1,000 of these plants directly.

Highlights of the event included the distribution of fruit trees to local households and interactive awareness sessions aimed at educating schoolchildren and residents about waste management, recycling, and the benefits of tree planting. A panel discussion titled “Ending Plastic Pollution” featured representatives from the Dhidhdhoo Council and local NGOs.
Young participants also engaged in a drawing competition centered on sustainability, with eco-friendly prizes awarded. To encourage sustainable habits, Dhiraagu provided reusable ocean-themed bags to all attendees.

The event supports the national goal of planting five million trees and is part of Dhiraagu’s broader corporate social responsibility efforts to restore natural habitats and fight climate change. Bishaara Hameed, Dhiraagu’s Senior Manager of CSR, emphasized the company’s commitment to healthier ecosystems through collaboration with Clean Maldives.
This initiative highlights the power of community action in creating lasting positive change for the Maldives’ environment and future generations.
