The Maldives Meteorological Service has announced that weather conditions during the upcoming Eid Al-Adha holidays are not expected to be severe enough to disrupt sea travel.
While some rain is expected, wind speeds are forecasted to stay between 10 and 15 miles per hour. The seas may not be completely calm, but they are not expected to become too rough for travel, according to a Met Office official.
Eid Al-Adha falls on a Friday this year, and with government offices closing from Thursday through the following Monday, many Maldivians are preparing to travel. It’s one of the busiest times of the year for inter-island trips.
The Met Office has advised travelers and seafarers to stay updated with weather advisories to ensure safety during the holidays.
In past years, Eid holidays have often seen interruptions due to rough seas. The current southwest monsoon season, known locally as Hulhangu, began last month and typically lasts through November, bringing intervals of rain and wind.
Despite the seasonal weather, this year’s Eid forecast offers reassurance for those planning to travel across the islands.
