Bank of Maldives (BML) has rolled out self-service ATM facilities in ten additional islands across Shaviyani Atoll under its "Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM" programme. This expansion is part of BML’s commitment to ensure accessible banking services in all inhabited islands of the Maldives.
BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef highlighted the importance of reaching customers in their own communities. “We take great pride and satisfaction in delivering this project at an accelerated pace,” he said, noting that ATM services have been introduced in 37 islands so far this year.
The new ATMs allow residents to access key banking services without needing to travel to a branch, significantly improving convenience and financial inclusion. Shareef also pointed out that more than USD 94 million has been deposited this year through ATMs located outside Malé, showing how vital these services are to atoll communities.
This effort aligns with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s national strategy, launched in November 2024, which aims to install ATMs on all inhabited islands by the end of 2025.
In addition to Shaviyani Atoll, BML has now introduced ATM services in all inhabited islands of Haa Alifu, Dhaalu, Noonu, Meemu, and Kaafu Atolls.
