Construction of a new causeway linking Muli and Naalaafushi in Meemu Atoll officially began on Tuesday. The project was awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on August 30, 2023.
The development includes a 565-metre causeway and a 105-metre bridge built in three segments. It also covers paving the road, 112 metres of revetment, and a 15-metre groyne.
The project is valued at MVR 125.5 million.
Construction began the same day Muli’s new domestic airport opened. According to the government, both projects will help grow the local economy and improve connections across the atoll.
Plans are also in place to reclaim two islands in the Muli lagoon to further support tourism in the area.
