The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has confirmed that everyone in the Maldives Hajj Corporation’s queue for this year will be able to perform Hajj in 2024. This marks the first time in years that all listed pilgrims will be accommodated in a single year.
The official Hajj quota details, including how it is allocated and used, will be announced on 26 May.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had earlier shared the news, highlighting it as a major step for Maldivian pilgrims. He also announced that, starting next year, priority for Hajj slots will be given to those who have never performed the pilgrimage before. The Maldives Hajj Corporation has confirmed this change will be implemented from next year’s quota.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Maldives Hajj Corporation are working closely to improve services for pilgrims. A major update this year is the introduction of the Makkah Route Initiative for Maldivian travellers. This initiative is expected to simplify and speed up procedures for pilgrims.
The inclusion of the Maldives in the Makkah Route Initiative is being welcomed as a major achievement under President Muizzu’s leadership, improving the overall experience for Maldivian pilgrims.
