New Academic Year Set to Begin with Strong Support for Schools

The Maldivian government has ensured that everything is in place for a smooth start to the new academic year, according to Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu. As students return to school on Monday, Dr. Shafeeu highlighted that preparations were on track, mirroring last year's efficient start.

In an interview with PSM News, the Minister emphasized that the Ministry has prioritized a seamless transition, which includes school renovations and ensuring that every school is adequately supplied with books and teachers. "Books have been distributed more efficiently this year," Dr. Shafeeu noted. However, he mentioned that a few students who recently switched schools may face delays in receiving their textbooks. The Ministry plans to send the remaining books once student placements are confirmed.

The Minister also called on parents, teachers, and the community to collaborate in creating the best learning environment for students. With the new academic year set to begin on April 7, the Ministry's revised calendar also includes the first-term holiday starting on July 24, followed by the second term on August 10, and the academic year concluding on December 28.
